People are just not very good to each other. Yeah,
people are sometimes cruel and selfish. Would-be writers and poets
especially. These are some the meanest people on earth, let me tell youand the worst of it is that
they end up directing their anger and frustration not at publishers
or corporate oppressors but usually at other struggling writers/artists.
It’s
sort of like bums fist-fighting over crumbs of food. Truly awful.
Instead of uniting against the tyrannical forces that oppress them,
they launch into petty attacks on each other. This is a slave mentality—driven
by petty jealousy and an overall feeling of impotence. Don’t attack
the master—those really in power—that would take too much courage; instead
attack another lowly slave—and do it anonymously if possible. It's really
cowardly and disheartening. I've NEVER publicly diminished anyone's sincere attempt to make art,
or actively discouraged anyone from enjoying any writing. And why should
I? I know how hard it is, how lonesome it is for those eating shit and
struggling to make it. Every would-be writer/artist assumes that THEY
are the greatest writer/artist that ever livedthat's the artist's
delusioneven if they haven't written a single book or story. And
with this idea they think they have the right to destroy others, hurt
others in a misdirected attempt to assume command among the hierarchy
of slaves. It really makes me sad. There is no community for
artists, just selfishness. And emptiness. Each one is on his or her
own, living the life of a loser or a failure in America as they struggle
to exist and find meaning. |
