First off, let me warn you that you may fucking HATE it. Many people do, and remind of it in emails, etc. Oh well. Once your work is out there you just become fair game for abuse, I guess; a sort of punching bag. That’s just the way it is. It’s actually painful. My new novel is really anti-social, and I think partly it’s a reaction to some of the nastiness people directed my way for The Losers' Club. It made me think that people suck, in general. “The Genius of the Crowd” by Bukowski—you know it? Yeah, like that. My new novel is VERY different from my last. The Losers’ Club is just a little love story, an urban romance, both of a woman and the grubby East Village pre-9/11, where it's set. Dolores, the character of my new novel, may be a projection of what I needmaybe some kind of alter-ego or ego defense mechanism personifieda bold force who's not afraid take on all haters, a kick-ass mega bitch version of myself who’s reckless and crazy and completely unselfconscious. She's like an avenging bad girl "Kali" archetype, straight out of my (our) exploitation film-geek collective unconscious. How’s that for bomb-ass
psychobabble? Now here’s a
