corrected typos and edits! TheFuck! Why did this version of The Losers’ Club go to press with so many errors? Many people don’t see writers and (offset) publishers as having deadlines, but they do. These deadlines are shaped by the needs of booksellers and distributors. Marketing is also arranged far in advance of the publication date. In the end, ready or not, you need to deliver. So we were meeting contractual obligations, and that’s the truth. In the case of the first 2005 printing of the book (the first so-called “restored” version), I regret to say that the book just went to print a little too soon. It’s as simple as that. The restored edition ending up needing restoration. Yeah, har har,
hardy har har. The first restored edition ended up going to press with the exact same text of the uncorrected proof, which was circulated to booksellers and advance reviewers. Few people outside of publishing realize that offset books are initially published twice, the first being the “arc” copy, which is printed in the hundreds and sometimes thousands. A corrected version of the “arc” text should be the final—and only—version available to the public, but not in this case. It just didn’t happen. In many ways this tainted the experience for me. But oh well. The only good news
is that the final restored version went into print and it's available
