Big Bad Mama
Here’s
a flick that demonstrated how fun exploitation/sexploitation
movies can be. Right from the start, it crackles with life and
energy—and further proves that NOT sticking to the facts—to
reality—is a good idea. This is one of the first Roger Corman
produced films I came across in researching material for my
own sexploitation-based drama. It convinced me that I needed
to enter a similar playful universe in creating a world for
my characters, a world where females were larger than life and
capable of absolutely anything, including mixing it up with
the boys. Sexploitation provides the perfect soil where excessive
characters and situations can take root. Really, it’s a kind
of universe where wish-fulfillment is satisfyingly granted.
(Are these sexploitation mamas mere caricatures of power,
as is often charged? I say, no. No less so in my view than the
so-called heroic men depicted in cornball blockbuster
action films and books. I mean, in movies,
why should Bruce Willis have all the fun?)
